Chris began surf instructing at 19 and his coaching has taken him all over the world, he worked at luxury surf camps in Portugal, Morocco, Norway and Sri Lanka, before settling back at his home on the Northumberland coast. His surf lessons speak for themselves – you will come away amazed by his encyclopaedic knowledge of all things surf and by your own progress. He is not only great at teaching adults but the kids at kids club adore him too.
Chris has put time in riding many different styles of boards and is a particularly accomplished longboarder – if you’ve spent any time at Bamburgh you may have spotted him doing some seemingly impossible manoeuvre on his longboard.
Emily Grimes

Qualifications: ISA level 1 surf coach, SLSGB surf coach safety and rescue, BSUPA level 1 paddleboard instructor
Emily has surfed all over the world, pushed herself in big waves and became the first woman to compete in Scarborough’s big wave competition King Of The Point. She is a ridiculously keen surfer and never misses a swell no matter how big, small or cold it may be. After qualifying as a surf instructor Emily threw herself in at the deep end, both managing and teaching at a local surf school. Emily has found different applications for her skill as a teacher – she is a high school maths teacher and has spent 2 years teaching horse riding in Australia. This variety of teaching experience allows Emily to adapt her lessons to suit all types of learner, remaining relatable and understandable throughout. Her passion and love for both teaching and surfing are strikingly obvious to her students (maths and surf students alike!).
