Learn to Surf with Others
N E Surf offers group lessons for ages 8+ (6+ if fully supported by an adult). These are a great way to get started if you are a beginner, or a way to concentrate on improving your technique or learning new manoeuvres if you are more advanced, or want someone to check how you are doing.
We keep our lesson sizes smaller than the majority of surfing schools to ensure you receive the personalised instruction you need to help you progress. Our maximum lesson ratio is 1 instructor to 6 surfers, where industry standard is a 1:8 ratio. We deliver organised and involved coaching, rather than the live instructional video and free for all you may receive elsewhere.

Sessions for all Levels of Skill
Beginner
From absolute beginner to those who have surfed previously and need to work on paddle and pop up skills. Beginner lessons take place in wading depth water.
Child: £30/pp
Improver
These lessons are for people who can confidently catch and surf white water waves and are looking to refine their technique with a view to surfing unbroken waves.
Adult over 16 – £35/pp
Child: £30/pp
Intermediate
This lesson is for people who have some understanding and experience of surfing unbroken waves down the line and would like to refine their technique and learn new manoeuvres. If you haven’t had a lesson with us previously please give us a call before booking in so we can discuss if this lesson is right for you.

Advanced
Advanced surf lessons are for surfers who can competently catch and ride unbroken waves left and right. These lessons are tailored to progressing specific manoeuvres, style and personal improvements to surf technique.

What to expect and what you will need to take part
- Location – Bamburgh Beach (unless, due to conditions, we contact you to say otherwise).
- Duration – 2 hours from meet time to lesson finishing. Allow a further 10 minutes to change at the end.
- What to bring – all equipment is provided. We have quality wetsuits in a wide range of sizes and boots, gloves and hoods available in the colder months. If you would like to wear your own wetsuit that’s fine, but a good quality 5.4mm is what we use most of the time in Northumberland, so if it’s thinner consider using one of ours.
- What the lesson entails – all of our lessons include a warm up and safety brief of the days conditions. Our beginner and improver lessons break all the stages of surfing down into manageable chunks, including both beach theory and lots of practice in the water. Intermediate and advanced lessons are tailored to the goals and needs of the surfers, they include both beach theory and always lots of time in the water. Whatever the session, you’ll come out feeling like you’ve really earned that hot drink and Bamburgh Banger butty (or whatever else might be on the menu!).
Structured Coaching
At NE surf the quality of our lessons is of paramount importance to us. We believe that structured coaching leads to better surfing, so we group our lessons on ability to ensure that everyone receives appropriate and tailored instruction.
