We’re taking our popular Fit To Surf Camp structure on the road, with a few exciting differences. Being fit to surf is about so much more than just physical fitness. On this 3 night camp we will prepare you both physically and mentally to progress your surf skills and get the most out of your time in the water. 

Explore new waves and improve your surfing with a combination of surf coaching, theory, video analysis, breathwork, mobility, fitness, yoga and countless hours of surf chat and stoke.

Relax in our luxury accommodation on the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall, and refuel with delicious plant based evening meals made by Sunshine Cafe and Yoga.

Who is this retreat for?

We want this camp to be as inclusive as possible, so that if you want to enjoy this holiday with someone of a different experience level then you can! We can cater from beginner through to advanced surfers with a maximum ratio of 4 surfers to 1 coach. We will split the group as necessary to cater to differing experience levels, so that everyone receives attentive and appropriate coaching.

Prior to the camp you will receive a telephone consultation with one of your coaches so that we can understand where you are in your surfing journey, and where you want to be. This allows us to plan our coaching around you.

We will be staying in a beautiful location on the The Lizard Peninsula, near the village of Gunwalloe. If you were expecting that we’d be heading to the Newquay area and haven’t heard of The Lizard, we recommend you have a quick whiz through google images. The Lizard is the most south westerly point on the UK mainland and is an area of outstanding natural beauty, it’s also a lot quieter than the hustle and bustle of the North Coast of Cornwall.

Chris used to live on The Lizard, so it’s an area we know well. As Northumbrians we’re drawn to it’s quiet country feel, expansive coastline and quiet waves. 

Surf lessons will mainly take place at Praa Sands on the south coast, or we will take a 30 minute drive along quaint Cornish roads to a North Coast location if conditions are not good on the South Coast. For the guided free surfs we will either stay at the lesson location or head to another spot offering the best conditions for the group, giving you a great opportunity to practice what you learnt in the lessons (we will be in the water with you to help and give more pointers!) and explore new waves.

Check in from 5pm on the first evening – please aim to be there by 6pm at the latest. If you get to the area earlier in the day we can recommend a good spot to check for a surf or an explore. 

We keep the exact itinerary flexible so that we can maximise the surf conditions. We have 4hrs a day allocated to surfing on day 2 and 3, and 2hrs on the final morning. We aim to structure the day so that you have some free time to unwind and explore. Lunch is not included but there are beachside cafes/restaurants at the surf spots, so you can either join us and get lunch as a group or do your own thing! You are not obliged to surf in all of the sessions, should you want some more time for relaxing or exploring!

With that in mind, here’s what you can expect:

Immerse yourself in all things surf, learn for the first time or develop your skills with our expert instructors. At NE surf we are passionate surfers and educators; we are creative, adaptive and reactive in our approach to delivering the best quality surfing lessons. We understand how the body and mind effect our surfing and take a hollistic approach to coaching, by looking at how fitness, mobility, flexibility, breathwork and knowledge impact the effectiveness of our students techniques. Our group sizes are kept small to ensure that each surfer receive’s personalised tuition and achieves their personal surfing goals. We’re here to support and guide you at your own pace. Ultimately, what makes our lessons stand out from the rest is that we don’t just teach you how to stand up on a surfboard, we teach you to surf.

On this camp you will get 3 lessons that are structured, progressive and tailored to your individual needs and goals. You will also have 2 guided free surfs with your coach who will be there to support you – we find the dynamic of going for a surf with your coach super helpful. It gives you the time to feel out what you learnt in the lesson and absorb more tips as you go in a more relaxed environment.

We will do one video analysis session and there will be lots of surf theory over the weekend. Your coach will be with you throughout the weekend so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to pick their brains on absolutely anything surf related. At the end of the retreat you will receive a progression form giving you a plan for improving your surfing independently.

Breakfasts and 2 evening meals are provided. 

Our breakfast is provided by Conscious Oats and is a delicious, plant based overnight oats with 3 flavour options. 

Lunch is not included, but there are plenty of beach side options to choose from. The accommodation also has a full kitchen and you are welcome to use the cooking facilities.

The 2 catered evening meals are being prepared by Sunshine Cafe and Yoga – a gorgeous plant based cafe and yoga studio based in Penryn. For the other evening we will make a group reservation at the local pub – you are welcome to join or make your own plans (please note, this meal is not included)!

Approaching Lower Tregiddle Holiday Cottages, down the private farm lane, the beautiful panoramic views over the soft undulating landscape towards the sea will set you in holiday mode. Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Lizard peninsula the stunning holiday cottages, with superfast broadband, lie within a courtyard setting alongside four other cottages and a nearby working farm. We have the 2 largest cottages for the camps, one has a tennis court in the garden while the other has a barbecue and a badminton/volleyball net.

Each former farm building has been sympathetically and individually furnished to a high standard with comfy sofas and well-equipped kitchens, and has its own private garden in which to relax and enjoy the views.

There are 3 king sized double bed rooms (1 with an en-suite) and 1 super-king double with an en-suite. These can be booked as double or single occupancy. There is an option to add a non-surfing guest to a double room (see optional extras).

There is 1 bedroom with twin beds and 1 bedroom with bunk beds, both sleeping 2 people. These can either be booked individually or as a pair – if making a booking with someone please both book at the same time to ensure the other spot does not get taken. If booking individually you will be sharing with another individual camp guest.

Surf Caddy Package – £200 – If you book a king size double room you can bring your non-surfing partner, friend or family member along to share the room with you. They are welcome to join for the included meals and the yoga session. They don’t necessarily have to surf caddy for you (we just like the name!), they can enjoy all that The Lizard has to offer and even a spot of tennis in the garden!

Massage – choose from a deep tissue/sports massage or a relaxation massage with our Masseuse, Minnie from Sunshine Cafe and Yoga, who will come to us and do the massages at our accommodation.

Week long package – if you would like to stay with us for the whole week, completing the two camps, we are offering it at the following discounted prices:

Double occupancy room – £1000pp | Single occupancy room – £1150pp | any optional room extras must be paid for twice. Please call/message us to arrange the week long package.

Early bird private lesson – £80 – join us earlier on the first day for a 1.5hr 1:1 lesson with your coach. This is a great way to get some super focused feedback to start you off and get to know a surf spot in the area.

having a vehicle or sharing with another guest is necessary to drive to the chosen surf spot. If you don’t have a car please let us know and we will try and link you up with another guest. We aim to and encourage car sharing to the surf spots to minimise the environmental impact of driving.


Lunch is not included, but there are great beach side locations at the spots we will head to. Budget between £10-£15 each day for lunch.

Evening meal

One evening meal is not included. We will have a group reservation at the awesome local pub, but if you’d rather do your own thing on that evening (the middle evening) then that’s fine! There’s loads of restaurants around the area and there’s plenty of cooking equipment in the cottages that you are welcome to use.


There is a welcome drink included, otherwise alcohol is not included, but feel free to bring some if you would like!

Drinks and snacks

Drinks and snacks outside of the meals are not included, so please bring a refillable water bottle and snacks as required!

Sunshine Cafe and Yoga

Join Ella for a Yin Yoga class, relax and unwind after a long day of surfing. She will guide you through a surf-focussed sequence of poses, to get deep into your tissues and fascia and release any tension you are holding. Yin yoga is about creating stillness in the body, breath and mind; poses are held between 2-5 minutes to work deeply with your body and to calm and relax the nervous system. The class will end with a mini sound bath, you will relax as Ella plays calming, healing and grounding frequencies.

Flat conditions

Unfortunately we cannot guarantee great waves as we’re at the mercy of the weather. We put a lot of time and effort into ensuring that our camps are enjoyable, informative and beneficial for all participants, and rest assured if it’s flat we will do the same. We have a number of fun and useful flat water sessions planned, as well as land based simulation training in the form of surf skates and balance boards. You will still enjoy awesome surf specific fitness, learn loads about surfing, explore a new coastline and get plenty of time in the sea!

A deposit of £150 is required up front to secure your booking. This can be done online through our booking system or over the phone.

The balance will be required no later than 8 weeks before the camp date. The deposit is non-refundable so make sure you’re definitely available before booking.

Should you need to cancel you will be eligible for a refund of the remainder only if we can find a replacement or if it is cancelled at least 8 weeks prior to the retreat.
